Why a Doula?

A Doula is extra insurance to get the birth experience you want. Have you been planning your birth story? Hoping to have your voice heard in the crazy moments that are during labor? A Doula is there to be your head cheerleader and advocate. A Doula can offer multiple techniques (stretches, massage, reflexology, and SO MUCH MORE) to ease your labor experience, all tailored to your needs. Your very own Mary Poppins.

Whattoexpect.com states: “A doula offers continuous support during the entire length of labor and beyond (doctors or midwives may change shifts, and some may only be present during the final stages of birth). Doulas, however, typically meet with you before the birth, will stay with you during the entire labor and delivery process, and will often make one or two post-labor follow-up visits to check on your breastfeeding progress and make sure baby is latching on correctly. Studies have shown that doulas can help cut back on time spent in labor, reduce a mom’s anxiety, lower the rate lower the rate of medical interventions (including C-sections) and improve mother-baby bonding post-birth. “

How does it work?

A Doula will meet with you prior to labor (normally in month 7-8) to develop a plan with you and when labor starts meet you at your designated birthing space. During delivery a Doula is there to provide you with your desires you created together and if the plan needs to change will advocate and emotionally support you mama!
